At least 160 people reportedly have died as a result of severe flooding and subsequent landslides in Nepal and northern India. Nepal reported at least 101 deaths, with 130 people still missing. India reported 60 deaths, with entire villages marooned. While the worst of the rain is believed to be over, many villages are cut off from aid as a result of the damage. Thousands are also homeless as many rural communities were completely submerged by the waters. Nepalese officials fear that the flooding has created the conditions for a cholera crisis. “We are concerned about a possible outbreak of cholera because of all the dead bodies and livestock lying underwater,” said Nepal's home ministry spokesman, Laxmi Prasad Dhakal.
