Scientists believe they have found the Lunar Orbiter 2 spacecraft, which was sent into space in 1967 to stake out landing sites for the Apollo missions, but disappeared when it crossed over to the dark side of the moon. Before crashing, the spacecraft took "the picture of the century"—the first image NASA would see of the moon. Images recently taken by another spacecraft sent to scope out the entire lunar surface reveal a mysterious pile of lunar rubble. Scientists poring over the image aren't entirely certain whether the rubble resulted from a comet, or if it marks the crash-landing site of the 1967 Orbiter. The image is not clear enough to identify the diameter of the crater rim, but scientists are "currently re-targeting the area" to determine more accurate measurements.
