A Thai court cleared two journalists of defamation charges in the southern island of Phuket on Tuesday. Australian Alan Morison and his Thai colleague Chutima Sidasathian, who both worked for the news site Phuketwan, faced jail time for a 2013 article on human trafficking. The article referenced a 2013 Reuters report that quoted an unnamed smuggler who claimed Thai naval forces profited by turning a blind eye to trafficking. Government officials did not take any actions against Reuters and the news agency won a Pulitzer Prize for the report. The duo were acquitted of defamation and breaching the Computer Crimes Act.
