Over the course of a single day at a Starbucks in St. Petersburg, Florida, nearly 400 people paid it forward by buying the order for the person behind them. It all started at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, when a woman bought her own iced coffee, and then asked to pay for the caramel macchiato of the stranger behind her at the drive-through. As the day wore on, each person would arrive to the drive-thru window where the barista, Vu Nguyen, 29, would tell them their drinks had already been paid for by the person ahead of them, and asked if they would do the same for the person behind. It came to an end at 6 p.m., when customer 379 declined the offer, and said she just wanted her $2.25 drink.
