An outbreak of the Ebola virus has so far left 59 people dead in the West African country of Guinea. When symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, and fever were reported last month, the country had been unable to identify the disease. According to UNICEF, 80 people were infected with Ebola and 59 have died. "In Guinea, a country with a weak medical infrastructure, an outbreak like this can be devastating," the organization said. So far most of the cases have been in southern Guinea. The Ebola virus became well-known to Westerners through the popular 1994 nonfiction thriller The Hot Zone.
