An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck off the coast of Taiwan early Monday, but preliminary tsuanmi warning ended for Japan's far south areas of Miyakojima and Yaeyama, according to Japan's Meteorological Agency. National broadcaster NHK initially reported potential waves while the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement that based on data, "there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake." The quake happened near near Su-ao, Taiwan. Witnesses said buildings swayed in the capital city of Taipei, but there was no visible damage.
