A top Filipino commander of the Abu Sayyaf extremist group, Khair Mundos, was arrested by Philippine security officials during a raid Wednesday. Mundos is on the U.S. list of most-wanted terrorists and authorities say he has received money from al Qaeda to fund bomb attacks. He was arrested in a slum near the Manila airport. He had been captured in 2004, but escaped in 2007. A $500,000 award was announced by the U.S. State Department in 2009 for the killing or capture of Mundos. Abu Sayyaf has been accused of deadly bombings, kidnappings, and beheadings since it was founded in the early 1990s, including attacks on U.S. troops and civilians.
