The Washington woman who threw acid on her own face in a hoax has been charged with three counts of theft from good Samaritans. Bethany Storro got at least $750 each from Michael Kite, Anytime Fitness, and Safeway when she claimed a black woman attacked her near a Vancouver, Washington, coffee shop on August 30. Kite sent Storro $1,000 via PayPal, and the companies held fundraisers for her (Storro exercised at Anytime Fitness and worked for Safeway). Theft against someone acting as a good Samaritan is deemed an aggravating circumstance in Washington state. After police puzzled over inconsistencies in Storro’s story, she admitted she’d hurt herself. Storro said she hoped to kill herself by applying drain cleaner to her face with a towel, and if that didn’t work, she’d get her face redone.
