Authorities have sentenced 11 Afghan policemen to one year in prison on Tuesday for failing to protect a woman who was beaten to death after being accused of burning a copy of the Quran. An official investigator said there is no evidence the 28-year-old woman, known as Farkhunda, had burned the Quran. Four men were sentenced to death earlier this month for the mob killing, which sparked international backlash about the treatement of women, while eight others were given jail terms. Eight police officers were also acquitted on Tuesday.
