The U.S. launched an air strike against a top leader of al Shabaab in Somalia on Monday, according to the Pentagon. "The strike took place in the vicinity of Saakow, Somalia," Defense Department spokesman Mark Wright said. "At this time, we do not assess there to be any civilian or bystander casualties." According to a military spokesman, the raid hit after the militant group's intelligence chief surrendered to the government.
