Iraqi insurgents are not going down without a fight. Iraqi soldiers captured Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the chief of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, after a shootout, spurring a series of suicide bombings that killed at least 75 people. One of the explosions occurred near where the arrest took place. Al-Baghdadi was the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and is the self-declared "prince of an Islamic caliphate." The explosions wounded people receiving humanitarian aid as well as Iranians on a religious pilgrimage. A suicide attack was also attempted on American forces, but did not yield any casualties.
