Alabama has executed Tommy Arthur, a convicted killer who dodged seven previous planned executions through appeals. Arthur, who was found guilty of fatally shooting a man in 1982 in a murder-for-hire scheme, was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. He was killed by lethal injection hours after the Supreme Court gave the execution the go-ahead following a temporary stay earlier Thursday. On Monday, Arthur told the Associated Press he knew his luck had probably run out with appeals, saying he was “terrified” the execution would be allowed but couldn’t do anything about it anyway.
