Photographer Annie Leibovitz has been struggling with financial woes for the past few months, but CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric got her to open up about the subject at the Women’s Conference at California’s Long Beach Convention Center. Leibovitz admitted to Couric, “I never paid attention too much or took care of finance. I left it to other people.” But, the Vanity Fair photographer, who failed to pay back at $24 million loan and put up the copyrights to her iconic images as collateral, assured Couric and the audience, “Those days are over.” The past five years have been hard on Leibovitz, who, in addition to the economic woes, lost both of her parents and longtime partner, writer Susan Sontag, all of which she documented on film. Though she didn’t photograph Sontag until she neared her final days, her partner encouraged her to do so, knowing full well it was what she loved. “I'm so lucky to have my photographs,” Leibovitz told the audience.
