New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade Chairman John Dunleavy is out after the organization’s officers and board members voted to replace him over his continued opposition to gay groups marching in the event. Dunleavy, 76, said last month that gay groups would again “have a problem” marching in the parade, and planned to open bidding for broadcast rights to other channels after NBC leveraged its position to allow its corporate LGBT group to participate this year. Out@NBCUniversal was the first gay group to ever march under its own banner in New York’s parade. Numerous elected officials have boycotted the event over its anti-gay policy, with many instead opting to participate in Dublin’s inclusive march.
