One of Apple’s Chinese suppliers is accused of labor and environmental violations, including imposing a mandatory 100 hours of overtime on its employees and failing to pay wages to 20,000 employees. Apple responded to the allegations on Thursday in a statement, writing, “Excessive overtime is not in anyone’s best interest, and we work closely with our suppliers to prevent it.” Catcher Technology owns the facility in question, where the aluminum enclosures for MacBooks and iPads are made. Apple also said that its most recent annual audit found areas for improvement within Catcher’s operations and had scheduled a follow-up visit for next month, but a team will be dispatched “immediately” to investigate the reports.
