Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. show, which closed New York Fashion Week on Thursday, was one big party. There was rapper Omarion in the front row next to ex-Spice Girl Mel B.; a few seats down was Debbie Harry. Fashionistas straggled in shortly after a monsoon passed over New York, so it felt fitting that the show opened with storms brewing on a jumbotron.
But the collection itself was remarkably sunny: a little bit hip-hop, a little bit lady-like, but with lots of attitude. Models strutted down the runway to M.I.A’s “Paper Planes” with smirks; popping their hips and swinging leopard print bags. And energy was high backstage, where Stefani greeted press in an outfit from the current season—an African print top, a pair of low-slung cargo pants, and spike heels—before the show. To calm her nerves, she spent time with her husband, Gavin Rossdale, and sons Kingston and Zuma. After the show, as Stefani took her final bow, Kingston rushed the runway, and she completed her lap with him in tow.
