Queen, Charles and William All to Travel On One Boat
More details about the Jubilee Riverboat Pageant (a word I have finally learned how to spell) were released today, and frankly, it's not hard to see why the Queen is dreading the affair, due to take place in two weekends time as a central element of the Jubilee celebrations.
After being greeted at Chelsea Pier by her son, Charles, who is Patron of the Pageant, and Camilla, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will walk past a guard of honour of Chelsea Pensioners before they board a small boat, the former tender to the decommissioned Royal yacht Britannia, which will take them 800 yards downstream to Cadogan Pier, where the Royal party will board the Royal Barge, the Spirit of Chartwell.
This is a different craft to Gloriana, the royal rowboat, which will lead the procession but not carry any Royals.
On board Chartwell will also be William, Kate and Harry.
Security precautions which usually dictate that the Queen and her heirs should not travel on the same plane or in the same car have obviously been dispensed with for the day.
Andrew, Edward, Beatrice and Eugenie, will be following up in a separate craft, Havengore, the passenger boat that carried Sir Winston Churchill’s body along the Thames to his State funeral in 1965.
The royals will spend about two hours on the water and travel more than three miles down the river.
