Senior Royals assembled at Windsor Castle today - in glorious sunshine - for one of the barmiest and most spectacular pieces of pageantry in existence, the Order of the Garter ceremony, which was founded by Edward III in 1348, and, some say, celebrates his mistress's underwear.
Membership of the order is the highest honour the Queen can bestow, and is limited to just 24 members, who have to wear very silly hats indeed, as these pictures show.
William is one of the newest members of the Order.
