Directed by Shawn Levy and based on author Jonathan Tropper’s bestselling novel of the same name, This Is Where I Leave You follows the trials and tribulations of the combative (and largely estranged) Altman family, who are forced to reunite at their childhood home in the wake of their father’s death to fulfill his last wish: a week of sitting Shiva. Naturally, chaos ensues.
There’s Judd (Jason Bateman), who’s suffering a midlife crisis after catching his wife cheating on him with his former boss, played by Dax Shepard; Wendy (Tina Fey), a controlling mother who’s married with two kids; the troublemaker Philip (Adam Driver), the Altman family’s resident playboy-hellraiser; and Paul (Corey Stoll), the “responsible” one of the lot who’s charged with keeping the family business afloat. The all-star cast is rounded out by Rose Byrne as Judd’s high school love interest, Timothy Olyphant as Wendy’s ex, Connie Britton as Philip’s older girlfriend, Kathryn Hahn as Paul’s wife and, last but not least: Jane Fonda as the unruly, horny matriarch of the bunch.
