Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte appeared as a family of four today for the first time in public, on the occasion of the new princess’s christening.
Prince George captured the hearts of the nation, waving regally to the crowds while wearing a copy of an outfit worn by Prince William for Prince Harry’s christening.
The service took place at the small parish church on Sandringham estate, the Queen’s Norfolk home, where William and Kate now live.
Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress coat and matching hat by Jane Taylor, and her sister Pippa also wore a Taylor hat.
There was a strong traditional note to proceedings, and it was noted that the Millson pram in which Princess Charlotte was wheeled to the church church was used by the Queen for Andrew and Edward.
Kensington Palace said the lesson was Matthew 18, verses 1-5, and the processional organ music is Vaughan Williams’s Prelude on “Rhosymedre,” which was also used as processional organ music for the Duke and Duchess’s wedding at Westminster Abbey.
There was another flashback to the wedding when guests after the service were served a tier of wedding cake.
The service was well attended, with guests including the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and, from the Middleton family, Carole, Michael, Pippa, and James.
Prince Harry is in Africa.
Godparents were named as Sophie Carter; James Meade; Adam Middleton; Laura Fellowes; and Thomas van Straubenzee.
