Modern-day blues trio G Love and Special Sauce just released their 10th album, Love Saves the Day, and it’s a testament to the perseverance of their unique blend of hip-hop flow and funky grooves. Saves the Day finds G and company turning up the heat, roughening the edges of their smooth sound in a way that will have fans stomping their feet in appreciation.
This track, “Muse,” has G collaborating with fellow folk and blues man Citizen Cope, a raw, rough-and-tumble jam that’s destined to be the soundtrack to many a person’s morning-after walk of shame. OK, maybe not shame. But it’s that kind of “What the heck happened last night? Who cares?” song, representative of the manner in which it was written:
“Cope and I started working on ‘Muse’ one late night down in Mexico. We worked from 2:00 am - 5:00 am and came up with the riff and the chorus,” G noted. “About six months later, I went out to LA and we had another all-night writing session to flesh out the lyrics. We knew we had something hot!”
