Grunge is still alive and well in Ethiopia.
Students of Yechila Secondary School sent a birthday tribute to Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after learning the lyrics of his former band’s hit Smells Like Teen Spirit to practice their English. As learning English is a prerequisite for getting into college in Ethiopia, Peace Corps volunteer Matt Westerberg decided to teach his students through alternative-rock songs. Westerberg told NME, “at first it was all just a joke, but after awhile, the students began to really build confidence through learning the song.” Check out the video below.
