The Russian government has always had a distorted sense of reality. They are, after all, led by an oft-shirtless, reportedly ABBA-obsessed gay-hating megalomaniac with a penchant for grossly overreacting at the sight of breasts. The government also has a long history of both disliking the United States and disseminating propaganda to control the populace.
Thus it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that a new anti-smoking campaign—the World Health Organization says our Russian friends are the smokiest in the whole world—is attempting to shame nicotine addicts into stubbing out their butts once and for all by comparing them to President Obama.
If you just said, “huh?” it’s understandable. But reason has never been a common thread for our Cold War adversaries.
In a Facebook post, Russia’s only, lonely, probably short-lived liberal opposition MP Dmitry Gudkov posted an photo of a bus stop poster depicting Obama sucking down a smoke in full Choom Gang mode, with the following admonishment:
“Smoking kills more people than Obama, although he kills lots and lots of people. Don’t smoke, don’t be like Obama.”
Gudkov stated on Facebook that he’s “disgusted and ashamed” with the use of the American president’s visage to shame Russian citizens to abandon a habit that kills half a million of them a year. Meanwhile, someone at Fox News is likely wondering why they didn’t think of this first.
