Tommy Davis, who lost his son, nephew and brother in the Upper Big Branch Mine disaster of 2010, says the company’s chief deserves much worse than a year in jail.
Outside the courthouse where ex-CEO Don Blankenship was sentenced to one year in prison for violating mine safety laws, Davis emotionally told reporters he was outraged by the sentence.
“This man has no remorse at all,” Davis said, visibly shaking. “I miss my family. He hugged his, and all he gets is a year.”
Davis said in the six years since the disaster, Blankenship has never approached him or any of the other victims’ loved ones to apologize.
