“You’ve probably never seen anything like this before.”
So reads the description of the latest video posted by vertical dance troupe BANDALOOP, and they weren’t lying.
The video shows six dancers performing a hypnotizing dance routine while hanging in thin air, suspended by special rigging on the side of the 100 Northern Avenue building in Boston.
After they descend the building’s reflective facade at the beginning of the clip, the group begins a complicated and mesmerizing dance routine. Running, flipping, and twirling across the building’s exterior, the three women and three men almost appear to be dancing in anti-gravity.
Essentially, BANDALOOP has turned dancing on its side.
It’s not the first time these dancers have done this type of perspective-bending dance. Founded in 1991 by choreographer Amelia Rudolph, the San Francisco-based BANDALOOP dance troupe has been performing vertical routines across the world using re-purposed rock climbing gear for 25 years.
“One day, I was clinging to a cliff in the Sierra [Nevada mountains], looking out at this vast view, and I asked this question, what would it be like to dance here,” Rudolph told CBS News in 2013.
According to its website, BANDALOOP has performed in front of nearly a million people in more than 17 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Asia.
We might not be ready to try this death-defying dance just yet, but the video is still awesome.
