Wednesday night was Stephen Colbert’s first Late Show back after Thanksgiving and he was still catching up on all the news he missed while he was away.
“And here’s one of the reasons, the last time Donald Trump held a news conference was July 27,” he said. Even though Trump is now the president-elect, Colbert explained that he’s “ditching the White House press corps like they’re paparazzi.”
That was the case Tuesday night when Trump dined with potential Secretary of State Mitt Romney at Jean-Georges in New York City. “The billionaire of the people ordered young garlic soup with thyme and sautéed frogs legs,” Colbert said. “I thought he said he was going to drain the swamp, not eat its contents.”
Colbert could not believe that the man who once called Trump a “fraud” and a “phony” is now kissing his ring for a job in the administration. “I bet those frogs legs taste a little bit like Trump’s balls,” he joked.
“Did Trump enjoy this public display of his most prominent Republican critic bending the knee?” the host asked. Looking at the smiling photo of the president-elect at the dinner, he added, “Yeah, I think he did. I’m glad they shot that from the waist-up, because he seems very happy.” As for Romney, “I know he ordered the frog, but it looks like he’s eating crow.”
