When first lady Michelle Obama did “Carpool Karaoke” with James Corden, she told him that for her, no one tops Stevie Wonder. So it was only fitting that Jimmy Fallon recruited him to serenade Obama at the end of her final late-night appearance as first lady on Wednesday.
“I love you, Michelle!” Wonder exclaimed, before breaking into “Isn’t She Lovely.” From there, he told the audience, “So, I must tell you, that I wrote this song but I kind of changed the words a a little bit.”
Then, Wonder transitioned into a version of “My Cherie Amour,” but instead of those lyrics, he sang, “My Michelle Amour,” visibly flooring her as he sang, “You’ll always be first lady in our lives.”
By the end of the song, she was swaying back and forth, singing along to the “la la la’s.” When he was done, she gave him a warm and lasting hug.
