Even shadowy founders of websites designed to take down governments have moms. Indeed, WikiLeaks’ mastermind Julian Assange’s mother defended her son Wednesday in an interview with the Australian newspaper Herald Sun. Christine Assange said her son lives by his beliefs, and is “fighting baddies, if you like,” by publishing his whistleblower website. Christine Assange lives in Queensland, Australia, and although she spoke anonymously in a recent New Yorker article, she now spoke openly about her “little boy.” Assange said her son is a “lovely boy, very sensitive,” and he “came from a background of creativity and a love of learning and books.” Apparently wanting to set the record straight about his personality, she added, “A lot of stuff that is written about Julian is untrue.”
