Dick Cheney: ‘Political’ CIA Probe ‘Offends the Hell Out of Me”
Dick Cheney is mad as hell, and he isn’t going to take it anymore. In his first interview since U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced that he would be launching an investigation into the CIA’s use of enhanced interrogation techniques, the former vice president went to Fox News Sunday to express his extreme displeasure and give the Obama administration a thorough tongue lashing. Cheney charges that the probe is purely political, and is outraged that Obama isn’t debriefing the CIA rather than threatening to disbar the legal advisers.
Liz Cheney Battles Sam Donaldson
The former VP wasn't the only Cheney who came out swinging on Sunday's talk shows. On This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Liz gets into it with Sam Donaldson, defending her father and criticizing the investigation into enhanced interrogation tactics by the CIA.
Orrin Hatch: Give Seat to Kennedy's Wife
Will another Kennedy take on the empty Kennedy seat in the Senate? On State of the Union, Orrin Hatch and Chris Dodd say they both think his widow, Vicki, ought to be considered for his interim successor in the Senate if Massachusetts permits a temporary appointment before a special election.
Glenn Beck Explained, Almost
There’s nothing unusual about an ad hominem attack on the Glenn Beck show, but as Howard Kurtz reports on Reliable Sources, there’s something different about Beck’s recent segments on Van Jones. Turns out Jones, a White House special adviser, is a co-founder of Color of Change, the group spearheading the advertising boycott of Beck—a fact Beck hasn’t mentioned. But, to be fair to Beck, the Los Angeles Times on Aug. 24 noted that Beck went after Jones as early as July 28, before the boycott was announced.
Cheney: Obama Weak on Defense, Will Undermine CIA
President Obama may be continuing the use of some Bush-era defense initiatives such as predator drones and rendition, but Dick Cheney says on Fox News Sunday he has “serious doubts” about whether President Obama “understands and is prepared to do what needs to be done to defend the nation.” He also takes aim at the investigation of CIA personnel, which, he argues, will undermine morale at the agency.
Kerry: Teddy Would Be Willing to Compromise on Health-Care Reform
Just one day after Senator Edward Kennedy’s funeral, the discussion has turned back to health-care reform and a new question has arisen: What would Teddy do? John Kerry tried to tackle the issue on This Week With George Stephanopoulos, saying that Kennedy would likely have pushed as hard as he could for a public option, but if all else failed, he would not “throw the baby out with the bathwater” and would work toward a compromise.
John McCain’s Straight Talk on Torture
John McCain says on Face the Nation that he still believes that an investigation into Bush-era interrogation techniques is a “mistake,” but he also takes issue with Dick Cheney, saying that the techniques used by the CIA not only violated international law, but also helped to recruit new members of al Qaeda.
Maria Shriver: Uncle’s Death Will Help Spur Health-Care Reform
Maria Shriver appeared on Meet the Press, whose entire hour was devoted to Ted Kennedy’s death. Shriver echoed what a number of Democratic politicians and pundits are beginning to say: that when it comes to passing health-care reform, the death of Kennedy may help “get it done.”
