All the toughest immigration law in the country needs now is the governor’s signature: The Arizona Senate voted 17-11 to approve the law that would allow police to question the immigration status of people they suspect of being there illegally and make it a crime to not carry identification. The bill now goes to Governor Jan Brewer’s desk; Brewer, a Republican, has not yet taken a position on the bill. Arizona, the nation’s busiest border crossing, has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants.
