In the first major protest against the current prime minister of Thailand on Saturday, over 100 demonstrators were arrested after the gathering got out of hand. But that number is low compared to the number of people who attended the rally, which was around 20,000, a number that includes many members of Thailand's royalist movement. Police had been warned of possible violence, but after deploying 17,000 officers and 10 cans of tear gas, they allowed the rally to continue. The rally is expected to last through the weekend.
