Handwritten by John Lennon, the lyrics to the Beatles song “A Day in the Life” have sold at auction for $1.2 million. The song is written in felt marker and blue ink on both sides of a single sheet of paper. (Corrections and notes are added, of course, in red ink.) The song, which Lennon co-wrote with Paul McCartney, is the final track on Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the group’s iconic 1967 album. An anonymous American bought the lyrics by telephone, Sotheby's said. The sale price is a record for Beatles lyrics sheets, one previously held by “All You Need Is Love,” which went for $1 million five years ago.
