Beryl Threatens Georgia Coast

Residents along the coast of Georgia are preparing Sunday for the approach of subtropical storm Beryl. Campers were warned to leave a barrier island, and a jazz festival was canceled in Jacksonville, Fla., in preparation for the expected inclement weather. While Beryl has not been classified as a tropical storm, storm warnings are in effect along the Georgia coast, and sustained winds of up to 45 miles per hour are anticipated when the storm makes landfall late Sunday or early Monday. Beach-goers hoping to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend were asked to leave a beach near Savannah after 48 people needed to be plucked from the water after being towed out by dangerous currents.
