A black teenager was shot and killed by a Berkeley, Missouri, police officer on Tuesday afternoon, just a few miles from Ferguson, where Michael Brown was killed. According to police, the teenager pulled and pointed a gun at the officer. Police have confirmed the individual as 18-year-old son Antonio Martin. Martin was at a gas station with his girlfriend. Authorities said that an officer responding to a larceny call got out of his vehicle and approached them, at which point the teen pulled out a 9mm handgun. “Fearing for his life, the Berkeley officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him,” a release from the Berkeley police said. The girlfriend reportedly fled the scene. The officer was not wearing a body or dash camera at the time, and has been placed on adminisrative leave. The police say that surveillance video corroborates the officer's story, and have released footage of the final minutes.
