Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has escaped 23 of the 24 charges in his corruption trial. The jury had a unanimous verdict on only one count, that of lying to federal officers, which carries up to a five-year sentence. Jurors deliberated for 14 tense days, at one point last week telling the judge that they were deadlocked and could not come to agreement. Blagojevich, 53, had entered a plea of not guilty on all 24 counts, which include charges that he attempted to sell the Illinois Senate seat vacated by President Obama after the 2008 election. The disgraced governor arrived at the courthouse this afternoon with his wife Patti, shaking hands with admirers. “God bless you, God bless you, I didn’t let you down,” he told one spectator. Prosecutors vowed to re-try the case "as soon as possible."
