Five attacks on Nigerian villages on Saturday have left dozens of people dead after suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked, despite the government’s announcement of a ceasefire intended to allow 200 kidnapped girls to be freed. Government officials, however, remained confident that negotiations for the release of the girls would continue in Chad on Monday. “Dozens of people are been killed and houses are been burnt by the insurgents, so what is the meaning of the ceasefire government is talking about?” said Adamu Kamale, a state government lawmaker. However, government spokesman Mike Omeri told Reuters that “the Boko Haram people have also said that some attacks are not undertaken by them.”
