UPDATE: The devices were not bombs or intended to be bombs, police reported. EARLIER: Two buildings at MIT were evacuated Tuesday after multiple suspicious devices were found on the campus. A private contractor doing construction work on an unfinished dormitory found suspicious materials on the third floor of the building around 7:30 a.m. The Boston police bomb squad, the FBI, and officers from the ATF went to the campus to take care of the devices. Police popped the end caps off at least one pipe bomb, and worked to prevent the other devices from exploding. Police are not sure what could be inside the devices. In an alert on the MIT website, students were told to “stay away” from the building and that the situation is ongoing. Relatively few students are on campus as the university’s 2011 graduation was last week.
