File this under the department of things we never saw coming. A bone marrow registry hired flirtatious models to recruit donors—a practice that has the New Hampshire attorney general’s office investigating their marketing and billing practices. The models wore high heels, short skits, and lab coats and reportedly asked people in malls, ballparks, and other busy public spots for DNA swabs, without mentioning the price of the test. The registry, Caitlin Raymond International, was reportedly paying up to $60,000 a week for the models, who then billed the people’s insurance companies up to $4,300 for the test. New Hampshire started investigating when the city of Manchester, which is self-insured, complained it had been billed more than $8,000 after two employees had provided mouth swaps at the Mall of New Hampshire.
