In the five years since Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, began their fashion brand, Edun, with the intention of reviving clothing manufacturing in Africa, most of the brand’s production has moved to China. The brand got off to a good start but the limitations of African manufacturing started creating problems for the company. Shipments were late, clothing wasn't made according to specifications. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company’s communications director once hosted a party in the dark to draw attention away from the clothes. After selling 49 percent of the company to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for $7.8 million, the new stakeholders convinced Bono and Hewson to move production to China. Though they hope to get back to their mission and increase the amount produced in Africa, 70 percent of the clothes are produced in Asia, 15 percent in Africa, and the rest in Peru.
