After fears that the newest BP fix would have to be scrapped, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen will announce that the "integrity test" on the ruptured oil well will go forward, the results of which will determine whether the leak can be capped to stop the flow or have the flow contained. Allen announced yesterday that the test would be delayed to give scientists and other experts time to analyze and determine the risks of the new custom cap. The integrity test is expected to measure the pressure inside the well, and will last between six and 48 hours, officials have said. Its outcome could help determine if and when an end will be in sight for the spill.
