On Sunday, the managing director of BP attempted to sway public opinion of the oil company away from the perceived lack of credibility it has been faced with lately. “All of us at BP are trying to solve the problem,” he said on CNN’s State of the Union. “Nobody is more devastated.” The BP director was defending himself and his company against comments made by Rep. Ed Markey, (D-MA) who said BP had “lost all credibility.” Since the exploded Deepwater Horizon oil rig began spewing over 200,000 gallons of oil a day, BP has tried multiple ways to stop the flow but none of them have shown great success. U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen discussed BP’s credibility, saying, “When I give [BP] direction…we get a response. I’ve got (BP CEO) Tony Hayward’s personal cell phone number. If I have a problem, I call him.”
