Incoming BP CEO Bob Dudley has fired Andy Inglis, the head of its exploration division who was in charge of drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and announced plans to restructure the company’s safety operations. BP’s new safety and risk division will have what the Financial Times calls “sweeping powers to oversee and audit its operations,” will come up with common standards for the company, and will be headed by the company’s current safety chief, Mark Bly. Inglis’ departure, meanwhile, was expected; observers have said that one of Dudley’s first challenges will be to rein in the exploration division, which has acted semi-autonomously in recent years.
