Seemingly-ageless NFL quarterback Brett Favre has informed the Minnesota Vikings that he will indeed retire. Favre reportedly sent a flurry of text messages to his teammates saying, “This is it,” league sources told ESPN NFL Insider reporter Adam Schefter. While neither Favre nor the Vikings have confirmed the news, the Associated Press and other media outlets have also reported that Favre will not be returning this season, and a press release is expected Tuesday, according to sources. This would be Favre’s third retirement. The 40-year-old strong-armed quarterback also retired after 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers following the 2007 season, and again in 2008 after an up-and-down one-year campaign with the New York Jets. With Favre, however, nothing ever seems final. Just last year, he told the Vikings that he wasn’t going to play and then went on to record one of the best seasons of his career.
