The Florida girl who allegedly shot her brother to death Monday was abused by him and her parents, according to police. Fifteen-year-old Misty “Ariel” Kornegay told police she was locked in a room for weeks at a time with only a blanket and a bucket to urinate in. According to a police report, Kornegay talked her 11-year-old sister into unlocking the door of the room on Monday while her parents were out of town, allowing her to break into their parents’ room, take their pistol, and shoot and kill her 16-year-old brother, Damien, who had locked her up. The girl’s mother told police that they often locked Ariel up when she misbehaved; the longest they had enclosed her was for 20 consecutive days, according to the girls’ father. “It was learned that [Ariel] has made past attempts at ending her life but neither law enforcement nor [emergency management services] was notified,” police wrote in their report.
