Brown University became the third school in recent days to revoke an honorary degree from Bill Cosby on Monday in the wake of sex-assault allegations against the embattled comedian. In an email, the Ivy League school’s president, Christina Paxson, said Cosby hadn’t lived up to “the values of Brown” and “the qualities for which he was honored.” Cosby was awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters in 1985 and Paxson said such degrees are rescinded if the recipient’s conduct is “grossly inconsistent with the values of Brown.” Last Thursday, Fordham University in New York and Wisconsin’s Marquette University announced they had also revoked honorary degrees given to the comedian.
