The New York Times won the race to get the first copy of George W. Bush’s memoir, Decision Points. What are the revelations? The former President Bush considered dropping Dick Cheney from the 2004 ticket, so that he could “demonstrate that I was in charge.” Cheney offered to drop out, and Bush says he considered the offer but decided against it because “I had chosen him to help me do the job.” He defends the Iraq war, though said he had “a sickening feeling” when he learned there were no WMDs. He also holds his fire against his opponents, though says his first Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill “didn’t gain my confidence,” and he refuses to refer by name to his former press secretary, Scott McClellan, who wrote a tell-all book. Decision Points hits shelves next Tuesday.
