Things were more dire with President George W. Bush’s heart surgery this summer than previously reported. They were “life-threatening,” in fact. “With a blockage like that in a main artery, you’re supposed to die,” a source told the National Journal. “He was pretty lucky they caught it.” Bush had a stent put in to clear the blockage, but it was described at the time as a routine procedure. But in reality, a major artery was 95 percent blocked—and he was at risk of a “grave cardiac event,” sources said.
