Looks like Bush left one more surprise for Obama: Two of Britain’s most senior judges are accusing the White House of threatening to withhold intelligence from the UK government if it made public details of a detainee’s treatment. Binyam Mohamed, an Ethiopian-born British citizen, is now being held at Guantanamo Bay; he alleges he was tortured between 2002 and 2004 in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and at Gitmo. The UK judges had intended to publish 42 documents on Mohamed’s treatment but decided against it after the Bush administration’s threat, which the US said would put the UK at “considerable risk” of a terrorist attack. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband is now being urged to make a statement on the diplomatic flap, and Obama is facing calls to let the so-called torture documents see the light of day.
