The states with the most reported human-trafficking cases are California, Texas, Florida, and New York, according to a new report from the Polaris Project. The organization analyzed data from five years of reports to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, which has so far received more than 72,000 calls, emails, and online tips. Forty-one percent of those cases involved U.S. citizens, but of foreign victims, the majority came from Mexico, China, and the Philippines. Another interesting statistic revealed an underserved group: Of those identified as being sex trafficked, 85 percent were women, and men comprised 40 percent of labor cases.
