We have a winner! For the televised debates, anyway. British Prime Minister hopeful and Conservative Party leader David Cameron came out on top in two snap polls, with Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg in second and Prime Minister Gordon Brown bringing up the rear. Despite poll results, the debates have not changed viewers' votes. Both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have a little more than one-third of voter support, while less than one-fourth prefers Labour—numbers that are unchanged from the previous week's debates. The three men bantered about the economy, unemployment, and the tax system, but the hot-button issue was immigration. Ballots for the general election will be cast next week. The party finishing with the largest number of MPs will likely gain the ability to form the government. The three parties running this election may prevent any party from coming out on top, however, and the last time no party won a majority was in 1974, when a new election had to be called.
